Give insulin a head start
Rapid insulin is not instant. When I can, I give it time to start working before the first bite. Your timing is personal, so find it with your care team and learn from the curve.
Treat the low, skip the spiral
A low can make the whole kitchen feel necessary. My play is measured fast carbs, a timer, and space away from the fridge while I wait and reassess.
Make lows easier to treat
Keep the fast carbs you trust within reach before you go to sleep. A 3 a.m. low is not the time to search the kitchen with shaky hands.
Morning highs aren't your fault
Waking up high after doing everything right? That's dawn phenomenon, hormones, not failure. Track it a week, find your pattern, bring the data to your care team.
Movement is not the enemy
Know where you are starting, carry fast carbs, and learn how your body responds. Strength, cardio, and competition can all move glucose differently.
Pack double, split it up
Twice the supplies you think you need, split between two bags, one always on your body, never checked. Lost luggage is annoying. Lost insulin is an emergency.
Numbers are data, not grades
A 250 isn't an F. It's information: food, stress, a miscount, a weird day. Get curious instead of guilty. "What can this number teach me?" beats "what did I do wrong?" every time.
Lower the bar on hard days
Some days, checking once and staying safe is the win. Pace yourself, it's a marathon measured in decades.
